'Great things are done when men and mountains meet;
This is not done by jostling in the street'.
Which leads me to a recent encounter on a Welsh mountain where I (a keen amateur) first met professional photographer Eddie Hyde as we waited hopefully for a fast jet to pass through below us. It was the first time I'd attempted to take pictures like this and there was ample time to stare down the valley for an approaching speck and glance enviously at the 400mm lens on Eddie's camera. With some helpful tips from him about optimum camera settings for this kind of photography, a single RAF Tornado sped towards us and through the pass below, allowing just a few seconds of panning and rapid shutter release to capture it. We parted company on this wet and blustery peak, never to meet again and my day was enriched by having done so.
Thank you Eddie.
